    How does a single mother survive the lingering nightmare of childhood sexual abuse and find inner peace? Lágrimas de Cocodrilo is spoken-word activist Ignacio Rivera's tale of survival delivered in raw, vivid poetic monologues.

    Journey into one woman's struggle with female-on-female childhood sexual abuse, lesbianism and raising a female child in the midst of recovery.

    Working Our Way Home Conference
    We Are the People We‚ve Been Waiting For.
    Working Our Way Home is a 4-day conference focused on the lives, needs and struggles of people--primarily students in northeastern Ohio--in the African Diaspora who would welcome a conversation of their sexualities and genders that are more complex than mainstream categories. While recognizing language limitations and the difficulties of defining identity, we will explore (1) how our racial and ethnic identities relate to our sexuality and gender, (2) how we self-identify and exist between and outside conventional/traditional labels, and (3) how we form homes - supportive communities and families.

    The Bronx's Only Cultural Festival Celebrating Gay Pride

    CELEBRATE GAY PRIDE IN THE BRONX EVERY WEEKEND IN JUNE WITH FILM! DRAMA! THEATRE! DANCE! AND MORE

    (Bronx, NY) - BAAD! - The Bronx Academy of Art & Dance presents OUT LIKE THAT! 2003, a Bronx cultural celebration of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride. The festival runs weekends from June 6 through June 28 at BAAD!, 841 Barretto Street in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Tickets cost $10 -$15 and a festival pass costs $45. BAAD! accepts the Bronx Cultural Card. Ticket offers cannot be combined.

    POETIC DRAMA!

    Ignacio Rivera's Crocodile Tears (Lágrimas de Cocodrilo), The Work of Shirlene Holmes and Poet Shelley Barry

    South African Poet Shelley Barry begins the evening of powerful works. Then, Janis Astor del Valle and Carmen Kelly interpret the works of the celebrated, award-winning, African-American lesbian playwright and professor, Shirlene Holmes.

    The evening closes with the premiere of Ignacio Rivera's Crocodile Tears (Lagrimas de Crocodrilo), a semi-autobiographical play about a Black, Latina lesbian who survives female on female sexual abuse, raises a family in the midst of recovery and carves his own path using a series of poetic monologues.($15)

    DESCRIPTION:

    is word activist Ignacio Rivera's tale of survival delivered in raw, vivid poetic monologues. Journey into one woman's struggle with female-on-female childhood sexual abuse, lesbianism and raising a female child in the midst of recovery.

    WRITER/PERFORMERS BIO:
    Ignacio Rivera’s poetry exudes the consciousness of political activism. He honestly and powerfully unveils issues of race, discrimination, sexual abuse, sex, gender and white supremacy with his life experiences.

    Ignacio Rivera is a Black Boricua, queer, economic and racial justice activist/ performance artist. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, participates in poetry slams and has been featured at The Nuyorican Poets Café. He has also shared his poetry/spoken word at Yale University, University of Connecticut, La Salle University, Bluestockings Women’s Bookstore, Cowpasture Coffee House, DUMBA, and in other venues.

    Ignacio Rivera Emcee and performance Come hear stories from the new book THAT TAKES OVARIES!: BOLD FEMALES AND THEIR BRAZEN ACTS, then share your own real-life tales about being a brazen babe. Can cover anything you have *ever* done -- little or big -- that was gutsy, outrageous, audacious, courageous, or inspirational. It can be playful, serious, spontaneous, calculated, smart, sexy, and/or an example of leadership. Anything that when you think about it today, makes you nod your head with *pride* or even semi-disbelief and think, "Wow! I did that!" Come ready to read your pre-written tale -- or share one off the top of your head. Stories should be true and short: 1-5 minutes. Or come to
    hear *others* tell about their wild-n-crazy, daring deeds!
